Both the lecture and the talk are about the golden frog, a small amphibian threatened by a kind of fungus. Having considered this, the author provides three possible solutions to protect the golden frog against the fungus. The lecturer, however, categorically refutes all the reasons mentioned in the passage and explains why they are not effective.

First, the author claims that since the fungus is vulnerable to a kind of bacterium, they can use this bacterium species on the frog's body skin to diminish the fungus. The speaker, rebuts this notion, citing that this bacterium generates some special chemical on the frog's skin which attacks the fungus and destroys them. Nevertheless, after a while, the chemical also affects the bacterium and in this situation, the bacterium stops producing the chemical.

Second, it is mentioned in the text that golden frogs can be bred in captivity, separated from the infected frogs. Therefore, when they will be released into the environment, they can reproduce healthy frogs. The lecturer, on the contrary, denies this solution, suggesting that it is highly probable that other animals carry the fungus and make the captivated frogs infected. She adds that also when the captivated frogs are released in the habitats, they are likely to be infected by disease frogs.

Finally, the author states that golden frogs can be protected using a natural defense in which the temperature of their body will go up due to the reaction against the fungus. The lecturer, conversely, claims that although this mechanism can diminish the fungus, it is dangerous for the frog because heating the body needs a lot of energy. In this situation, losing an enormous amount of energy, frogs will be weak and it leads to their death resulted from other factors rather than the fungal infection. In this way, frogs no longer stay strong and healthy.
