We have observed a gradual increase of the sea level during the last decades. It is a slow increase, and despite the alarmist attitudes of some, it is nothing to be worried about. By analyzing the data and looking into the matter clearly, we can find that this is a normal process that has happened before.
Even though we have documented a rise in the polar ice melting, this isn't the reason for the increase in the sea level. That ice is already in the water, so it displaces it already. Think of ice cubes in your glass of water, when they melt it doesn't make the water from the glass spill over. The same thing happens when the ice cap melts. Since the Ice is 90% already in water, when it goes into a liquid state, nothing drastic happens.
When it comes to the source for the increase in the sea level, we just don't know where it comes from. Many scientific agencies like NASA have stated that they simply don't know from where all this new water is coming. So it is still a great unknown
The sea level has been fluctuating ever since the continents have emerged from the primordial ocean. We have seen many changes through the eons, half of our current landmass was submerged at one point. The same will probably happen later, and it will be through a slow and gradual process. Enough time will pass for humanity to adjust
The reading states that there is a rise in sea level over the past decades and it is a normal process that has happened before. Contrast to that, the lecture tells that it is going to be very effective and abnormal process.
The lecture mentions that the main reason of increase of sea level is due to melting of thermofrosts. The increase of sea level doesn’t depend on melting of polar ice caps and no relation with it. Due to the melting of thermofrosts, i.e., ice on land the water level is getting increased and the amount of land is decreasing gradually.
It is mentioned that water is growing in an abnormal way and even NASA is stating that it is unknown to them. Contrary to that, NASA knows that thermofrosts have a huge impact on sea level which they are not publisizing to the world.
The lecture casts a doubt on the statement humans need not worry about this effect. But, the lecture mentions that it will have a huge impact on human life. Thermofrosts are melting due to increase of temperature and burning excess amount of fossil fuels. If this doesn’t happen then, around 10,000 years there wouldn’t be any melting and increase of sea level. This will be very beneficial to human life. So, we need to act immediately on the increase of weather and global warming rather than facing dangerous consequences.
