What has caused Little Ice Age
What have been proposed in the reading passage are three possible reasons for the Little Ice Age. Although these reasons seem plausible, they fail to convince the lecture speaker, who counters them respectively with strong reason and scientific evidence.
One proposal provided by the reading passage is the great amount of cold water produced by the melted glacier flow alongside the Gulf Stream current and therefore cools down the temperature globally. The lecturer, however, disputes this proposal by pointing out the Gulf Stream could only affect the climate of North America instead of globally. This proposal fails to explain the climate changes of locations such as New Zelands or South Africa.
The reading passage also suggests that the volcanic eruptions may cause the climate change by producing dark clouds that block the sunlight. This suggestion, again, is counters by the lecture speaker. The speaker claims that volcanic eruptions would have caused noticeable visual effects such as colorful sunset or orange snow, but there is no report or evidence shows such phonamenon. Therefore, volcanic eruptions could not be the reason.
Finally, the author of the reading passage thinks that the increasing of trees due to the decline of human population may have cause the cooling indirectly. The lecurer, nonetheless, casts doubt to this belief and contends that the time period of the decline of human population is not long enough to recover the forests. The trees grow during that time period are not enough to reduce the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
