Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
In recent times, traffic and pollution problem has gained major attention. To solve this growing issue, increase in petrol price is believed to be very effective. I strongly disagree with the statement, and I believe that various other measures would be more constructive.
To begin with, increase the price of petrol has many drawbacks. Firstly, as people move much faster in today’s busy world, they tend to use private vehicles despite the increment in fuel prices. For instance, people use their car to save time even for a close shopping. Another worrying point could be, increasing demand for private vehicles is far more higher than increase in roads and infrastructures. As such, traffic congestion and noise pollution are inevitable.
It seems to be interestingly clear that actions need to be taken in order to address this issue. I think, as people have habit of using vehicles, government and car manufacturers should put some effort in introducing electric motor vehicles that are smaller size. Moreover, people should be encouraged to walk or ride bicycles for short distances. Using train, for instance, for traveling work places could be very effective. Last but not the least, awareness programs about the traffic congestion and pollution problems should be emphasized.
In conclusion, it is undoubtedly very true that our society is facing traffic and pollution problems. I think different measures should be taken in order to minimize the problem instead of increasing petrol price. Although, increasing the petrol price can minimize the problems in some way, it could have serious adverse consequences to other vital sectors.
