The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The graph represents the information about six different types of energy consumed in the US from 1980 to 2008 and the prediction to 2030 and which reported in 2008. Units are measured in quadrillion.
Overall, all the energy sources had experienced of incremental trend and are predicted to continue with this trend. It is apparent that petrol and oil were the highest energy consumption in the US and are expected to be remained at its dominant usage until 2030. Meanwhile, the lowest energy consumption was and will be hydropower.
In terms of oil and petrol, 35q units of energy had been consumed in 1980 and which was the highest consumption in the US. This consumption continued to increase until it reached at 40q in present days (2008). After this year, the report is expected that petrol and oil will be remained same as the main energy sources in the US to end at about 50q by 2030.
Coal and natural gas had the similar energy usages each other of 20q and 15q respectively in 1980. Despite the periodic fluctuation, both energy consumption frequently rose to reach at the same consumption until of over 20q in 2008. The coal consumption will be increased constantly to over 25q while the natural gas usage will be remained unchanged at over 20q until 2030.
In contrast, the rest of energy sources, namely; nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower had the lowest energy consumption throughout the projected periods. From 1980 to 2008, the energy usage was recorded at below 5q despite a slow increase in its usage. This will be continued with this incremental trend to reach at below 10q in 2030.
