The reading passage claims that humpback whales have this ability to navigate by stars and find their ways during migration. However, the lecturer casts serious doubts on this claim by presenting some counter-arguments and examples. He believes that none of these evidences are convincing.
On the first place, the lecturer contends that there is not any proof which make connection between intelligent and navigation. He provides a good example of one bird, the name is Duck in addition it is in average level in their general abilities though it can use stars for navigation due this is the intrinsic ability. This, however, is contradicted to the reading passage mentions that humpback whales seem to be talent enough to use stars to navigate by.
On the other hand, it is noted in the passage that whales cannot rely on land features, they could rely on stars at night to provide them with external signs by which to maintain direction over long distances. In contrast, she states that whales have some sense about earth magnetic, actually they have bio magnetic sense in their brain which can feel magnetic field in order to orient their selves by this advance.
Finally, the speaker points out that spy-hopping is really rare among marine animals moreover just sharks have this potential to use this ability also sharks never migrate, thus they use this power for looking at their animal which want to haunt. Conversely, this ability is practical at night because at morning there are not any stars in the sky. Nonetheless, the text asserts that one explanation for the function of spy-hopping is that whales are looking at the stars, which are providing them with information to navigate by.
