TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya wi
The reading passage states that Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree, started to perish in the state of Florida. The passage provided three solutions to solve this matter. The professor, meanwhile, casts serious doubts on this claim and she believes that none of these strategies will have satisfactory results to address this issue.
First, the reading passage claims that one option could be reestablishing Torreya in the same area where it flourished for several years. On the other hand, the lecturer makes the argument that this solution cannot improve the problem. She comments that some factors such as global warming and wetland drainage have affected the area to become dryer than before. Thus, it is improbable to find the similar original microclimate of this kind.
Second, the article declares that other solution could be moving Torreya to an entirely different location, far from its unique microclimate, while the professor disagrees and brings an example of another species to clarify her reasoning. She mentions that once scientists wanted to help the black locus tree to thrive in another location but it had some unpredictable consequences. This tree spread quickly and killed other plants which were some endangered species.
Third, although the reading posits that the other way to rescue Torreya could be preserving it in research centers, the professor firmly refutes this claim and believes that it is not possible to keep and study Torreya in the research center. As a matter of fact, there is a need for relatively large space than the research center and also a significantly different number of the tree's population to succeed in surviving this tree.
