TPO-19 - Integrated Writing Task Many consumers ignore commercial advertisements. In response, advertising companies have started using a new tactic, called “buzzing." The advertisers hire people, buzzers, who personally promote (buzz) products to people
The reading passage states that many advertising companies have started to implement a new method, named "buzzing," to attract people to buy their products. The passage adds that buzzing has created a lot of controversies, and many critics would like to see it stopped, and then provides three reasons for supporting the idea. The speaker, however, casts serious doubts on this claim and believes that none of these reasons are convincing.
First, the passage claims that as a buzzer is being paid to praise the product, this person may give incorrect information about the product. On the other hand, the lecturer makes the argument that they always tell the truth and this is not true. He firmly believes that companies advertise products which have good qualities and well-made materials. Moreover, he comments that they are paid, to tell the truth just like the place he works.
Second, the reading declares that as buzzers pretend they are like ordinary people, consumers do not have the chance to criticize their products, while the lecturer disagrees and thinks that this can not be the case. He asserts that according to their company's experience, In most of the cases people ask many questions about the quality, price, and the expiration period of the product. As a matter of fact, people buy the most practical and well-made products, and it is unlikely that they believe whatever they hear from the buzzer.
Third, although the reading passage posits that buzzing has some detrimental effects on social relationships, the speaker refutes this claim and says that this method, in essence, raises people's trust. He declares that if their products' quality is bad, the company will not be able to employ buzzers to praise them. Thus, if they win the satisfaction of their customers, a trusting cycle will form, and people will become more open-minded and tend to trust more.
