coins in North America
The professor discussed three main reasons why the coin found at the archaeological site in Maine provides adequate historical information. The information she presents is in direct comtrast to the facts outlined in the reading passage.
First of all, the speaker makes the point that not only the coin was found in the site, but also other objects were found that reveal the fact that these objects are originally from a far place. However, according to the the read due to the fact that the American site in Maine is placed more that a thousand kilometer away from the place which Norse settled and this is a reason why the coin is not related to the Norse.
Second, the lecturer points out that the Norse may have packed only their precious things. In other words, they may have not take the coins with them. On the other hand, the reading specifies that because no other relevant object was found. Therefore, it is concluded that Norse did not bring any coins in their travel.
Third, the professor mentions that the coins may have other functions rather than trade. IFor instance the coins maybe were used as a part of a necklace. In contrast, the reading states that the coins are not considered as money by North Americans. As a result, they do not have any value.
