The line graph below describes the amount of energy produced and consumed in the US between 1950 and 2000, and it foretells the projections for 2025 too. It can be clearly seen that both consumption and production rose over this span of 50 years and the trend will continue to increase.
According to the graph, in 1950 the quantity of energy used and produced in the US was just around 30 units. Both consumption and production increased by approximately 25 units and reached 55 units in 1975. Despite some fluctuations the consumption of energy climbed 90 units in 2000 while the production showed a moderate rise. (60 units) At the same time it is predicted that the consumption will rise significantly, and the production of energy will indicate slight increase in the first quarter of the 21th century. (140 units for consumption against 80 units for production).
To sum up, it can be easily noticed that despite the increases in the energy consumption and production the distinction between them is getting rise more rapidly.
