Claim: Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive.
Reason: It is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
A nation is evaluated on the basis of its states and cities, the citizens and the politicians in the ruling party. In a country like India, the major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc reflect the modernization of the west brought to the east. People belong to varied cultures and are from various different lingual states. A claim that the government must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive because they preserve and generate the nations cultural traditions is wrong.
The major cities are responsible for the economic growth of the country and its overall output but the real essence of the history and culture of a nation is in its villages and towns. The major tradition from which the country has grown and developed are all personified by the villages. It is in the villages and small towns where people with different ethnicity, languages and cultures reside. The folklore and the ancient rituals are still persistent in the village areas. In a country like India, with 30 states, a person can learn about the history and the rich varied culture only by visiting the small towns and villages.
The modern cities have evolved and developed to provide the luxuries of life to people but have forgotten to preserve the basic traditions of the country, far yet to generate them. Thus I disagree with the reason on which the claim is based. Providing more financial support to the major cities will only strengthen the economic output of the country and help in its development but does nothing to preserve or express the culture or traditions of a country. Such financial support should be provided to the backward or less developed state so that the country develops as a whole and each citizen enjoys the fruit of success. The traditions and cultures preserved in such villages should be given a chance to be expressed at a national level so that people from different regions and religions can understand the extent of varied culture in the villages and small towns.
In conclusion, I disagree with the claim as it does nothing to showcase the real traditions of the nation but only helps in providing economic growth to modernization in the nation.
