Recently, there has a debate about the approaches that might be used to stop the increasing in cane toad population in Australia, the author in the reading passage comes up with three approaches to solve this problem, while, the professor in the lecture completely disagrees with all these approaches and argues each on extensively.
First of all, the professor asserts that the building a fence in order to stop the spreading of cane toad to other areas in Australia, is unsuccessful idea, because the cane toad offsprings and eggs are usually living in water stream, so building a fence probably not that effective to prevent them from spreading to other area, especially, they are so tiny and can easily pass through the fence, unlike rabbit which is living just in the land and they are already large in size. Therefore, the author fence theory is not practically possible.
Second, the lecturer maintain an opposite side of view regarding the capturing of cane toad by a team of volunteers, because this kind of untrained team might be harmful to the nature rather than beneficial, they easily can capture the native frogs instead of cane toad, in fact, they are similar to each other particularly the young frogs, so that would be so destroyable to the native frog and would affect the natural distribution of them. Admittedly, the professor digs a hole in the second theory that had been mentioned in the text.
Finally, the lecturer thinks that the idea of creating a virus to kill the cane toad, is a horrible idea, because this virus may arrive in the United States and affect the cane toad in there, how can that happen? the answer is a lot of researchers get insects and pets from Australia, then, they may be carrying this virus and infected the cane toad in the United States and that would lead to destroyed the cane toad population in the United States and disrupted the ecosystem in there. By this point, the lecture successfully argues the third approach that has been written by the author.
