Both reading and lecture talk about the problems faced the archaeologists in discovering the old artifacts of Britain. The reading says that there are mainly three problems faced the archaeologists. On the other hand, the lecture says that the government provided solutions for those problems.
First, the reading stated that many valuable artifacts lost due to construction projects. While digging foundations for the new constructions, many valuable archaeological sites got uncovered, but the builders just proceed with the construction without paying any attention to those valuable things. Yet, the lecture doesn't agree. It says, due to the new guidelines every construction site must be examined archaeologically first. If any artifact discovered so new rules for the construction site should be followed.
Second, the reading says that there is no enough financial support for the archaeological researches. Most of the archaeological research are funded through the government which allowed the archaeologists to investigate just few of the important sites and leave hundreds not investigated. On the other hand, the lecture has a different opinion. It states that now archaeological researches are paid by the construction companies. This provides much more funds. the construction companies fund the examination process and then the other steps in the research process.
Third, the lecture states that it is really hard to find a job in the archaeological field. Jobs are available only at universities and few other governmental agencies. As a result, a lot of archaeologists seeking other jobs. On contrary, the lecture doesn't agree. it says due to the new regulation; any construction company need to hire archaeologists to help in the process starting from examination ending by writing reports. This long process will provide a lot of positions to many archaeologists.
