In general, the consumption of fish and chips showed a sharp downward trend, whereas the amount of Pizza and Hamburgers eaten by Australian teenagers declined considerably over this period.
In 1975, the most popular fast foods consumed were Fish and Chips, with approximately 100 times per year. This was far higher than the other fast foods, Pizza and Hamburgers, with only around 10 times per year. However, apart from a slight increase in the period of 1980 and 1985, the consumption of Pizza and Chips decreased gradually over the 25 year timescales to finish at just below 40 times per year.
In contrast, the amount of Pizza and Hamburgers eaten grew considerably from 1975 to 2000. To be more specific, Pizza consumption witnessed a gradual increase until it overtook the consumption of Fish and Chips in 1990. Then it remained stable at around 85 times per year throughout 1985 to 2000. Specially, the biggest rise was seen in the amount of Hamburgers eaten, exceeding Fish and Chips in 1985. It finished at nearly 100 times per year, the same level that Fish and Chips began.
