hypothesis about ability of an ancient animal that could fly.
The passage talks about the pterosaurs that are kind of ancient group of reptiles, and it clarifies that these animals couldn't flight, and presents three reasons. Although, the lecture has opposite view and refuses each of passage reasons. As a matter of fact, recent research has revealed that the pterosaurs have been capable to flight.
First, the passage mentions that the pterosaurs were kind of the cold-blooded animals and they couldn't produce enough energy for flight like other cold-blooded animals. On the other hand, the lecture exposes, discovery on their fossils reveals that they had dense hair covering on their body. Hence, this is for the warm-blooded animals to maintain their high body temperature in extremely cold conditions. Thus, as the warm-blooded animals can supply enough energy, pterosaurs could supply same energy too. Indeed, they did not have unfavorable problem for flight.
Second, the passage accounts for us, the pterosaurs were so heavy to be able flight, but the lecture has another view. Lecture explains that anatomy features of these animals show, they were light weight compared to their size. There are hollows in their bones that cause they will be light despite their large body. Due to their low weight, they could keep airborne by powered flight. Therefore, those ancient animals had no significant hardship to flight.
Third, the passage says that all animals with powered flight have capacity to take off from ground by jumping with their legs or running to gain speed and then jump. In opposite view, the lecture illustrates that there is distinction between birds and pterosaurs. Birds can jump or run with their hind limbs. Practically, birds have two limbs that push the ground with them to flight, but pterosaurs had four limbs. They used their four limbs to obtained speed and then jump; like bat that is a modern animal. Lecture also depicts that they used their four limbs to push the ground not just back ones. Finally, they did not have any remarkable adversity to run with their four limbs and then flight.
