Decision making is the process of making choices and reaching conclusions eventually. Although decisions are easily made, there might be difficulty understanding or executing them,however, relating these decisions to previous happenings aids better development. The knowledge of the past helps people make important decisions today.

In technology, findings on past innovations have enhanced improvement. The history of mobile productivity which evolved in the mid 1970’s has instigated the innovation of smartphones which people cannot do without today. The mobile technology between the 70s and 90s ranging from the invention of the first portable motorola handset by Dr. Martin Cooper and the DynaTAC 8000X to the Apple pen based devices by her CEO John Sculley and the IBM first ever existing smartphones is notable for bringing about the existence of Apple, Android, Windows and other smartphones. The acquired knowledge of the technological tools used in creating the outdated devices are being improved by programmers, administrators and developers allowing smartphones become fundamental parts of today’s living. Fifty percent of phones purchased in the US are the smartphones which are vital to businesses.

Scientific research in the medical field has helped the practitioners make very relevant decisions. To avoid more deaths, researchers are continually scouting for possible causes, effects and solutions to illnesses. For example, HIV/AIDS was observed over 32 years ago in the United States and the historical findings have helped medical researchers discover its prevention, treatments although no cure is known and also the nature of the disease. Awareness is conducted presently to prevent spread of the virus, however, affected patients are being given intense care and counseling on the management of the disease.

Political events in the past have triggered decisions taken today. Political leaders aim at righting the historical wrongs that have happened either within a long or short time frame. An example is the history of conflicts in Liberia over the ownership of land. The tribal resistance to Americo-Liberian rule began in 1822 and stood as a barrier to nation’s development. The findings proved that the traditional African customs refuted the transfer of traditional territory outside the tribal community and in the 19th century the government with reference to the past imposed protectorate over the aboriginal population of the Hinterland and intervened in the affairs of the territory.

In conclusion, history aids the knowledge of the past and future decision making in all fields including science and technology, medicine, politics, law, creativity. With history and discoveries, corrections can be made to enhance development.
