The reading article claims that dams are incredible engineering marvels that represent one of the most beneficial and effective forms of electricity creation today and gives three reasons for that. However, the lecturer casts doubt on each point of the article and claims that are many drawbacks of dams and gives three reasons for that.
Firstly, the article states that dams are positively impact the environment. In contrast, the lecturer casts doubt on this point by stating that environment suffers because of dams. In addition, the lecturer adds that dams make messy structure because of worker who worked for dams. Dams create the significant problem with natural water flow. Once the dam’s work is finished, the water flow become slower. This create problem with migrating fish population. It will affect reproduction capacity of fishes who require fast water flow.
Secondly, the article avers that the power generated from a dam produces no harmful pollutants. However, the lecturer contradicts this point by saying that dams contribut pollution. Furthermore, he adds that dams create flood in lakes. Because of this lake flooding, vegetation will be died. This will affect in Carbon dioxide gas absorption. Dams also relese methane gas which is global warming gas. These both gases will effect increase pollution.
Finally, the article posits that dams create no financial burden for the community. On the othe hand, the lecturer challenges this point by mentioning that area must be relocated where owner who buy property near dams. This would expense a lot of money, so this is not cheap. This relocating area must be needed government aid to pay taxt.
