four day work week
the lecture and the reading both discuss whether or not a four day work week benefiting company and individual worker. while the reading states that a company needs to implement the compulsory policy to give an option to wok four days with eighty percent wage. Hence its profits for the company and employee. The lecture refutes this point by saying it doesn't affect the company profits and employee.
First of all, the reading climes workers get enough rest with a shorter workweek, so they improve work quality with limited errors. on top of that, the company can hire new workers without additional payments. However, the professor argues that shorter working days force a company to spend more money because it needs to spend money on other facilities such as training for fresher, medical benefits, more office space, and computers. Furthermore, the professor states that none of the facilities help the company to get profit, rather they increase the company investment.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that four day work week reduce the unemployment rate if the full-time worker transfers his workload to a new worker. The lecture counter this claim by pointing every company doesn't follow this because recruiting new worker is expensive. he illustrated that rather a company hiring a new worker, they consider over time with current workers to make up, as a result, increase the workload. what more, job environment becoming unpleasant.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that shorter workdays improve the quality of life. because every employee had enough time to spend with family and to fulfill personal goals. The Lecture refutes this claim by pointing out that it had a more risk and it reduces the quality of life of an employee. He mentioned that shorter workdays decrease the work stability and threaten to his carrier, during the recession period they had more chances to lose their job. In addition to that, it impacts on their promotions, since most companies preferring five-day workers for constant monitoring and supervision.
