Inuktitut
The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in whether there are threats to the continued existence of Inuktitut. First of all, the reading says that a study shows that only 25% of the young Inuk people speak Inuktitut. However, the listening argues that this study were talking about the old version of Inuktitut that were lost. These 25% do not means that there are only 25% of people still speak Inuktitut, it means that 25% of the young do not speak the old version of Inuktitut as their ancestor did. Besides, other studies had shown that more and more people start speaking the new version of Inuktitut. As a result, this explanation in not accurate.
In addition, the reading implies that Inuk people have focused more on learning English education. On the other hand, the listening asserts that English education did not cause any impact on Inuktitut. Inuktitut were important because the people who work at the fishing industry can only speak the native tone. Therefore, Inuk learned both English and Inuktitut. In this way, they will be able to communicate with those people who work at the fishing industry. In other words, Inuk parents will encourage their kids to study both English and Inuktitut.
Last but not least, the reading indicates that media cause a significant impact because most of the local radio and programs use English and French instead of Inuktitut. However, the listening argues that it is true that media will cause some impact, but we need to look at the right media. People often use internet instead of radio or programs. There are a lot of Inuktitut website for people to communicated, and people had found out that Inuk still prefer to use Inuktitut. In other words, radios and programs are not likely to cause significant treat to the Inuktitut.
