The chart gives information about the percentage of unemployed Irish citizens and the number of
emigrants leaving the country from 1988 to 2008.
The given chart illustrate the number of unemployment people and the number of people who leaved Ireland over a twenty-year period, from 1988 till 2008. An overall view, indicates that percentage of the unemployment people experienced a downward trend, while the proportion of emigrants showed some fluctuation, however, it reduced from about 16 percent in 1988 to 13 per cent in 2008.
As can be seen, in 1988, around 60000 of people leaved the country, but during the next 15 years the number of emigrants has declined to about 25000 in 2002. However, the proportion of the emigrants showed a sharp increase and reached to 50000 in 2008.
On the other hand, the unemployment rate has reduced significantly through the period of survey. In 1988, around 17 per cent of Ireland population were out of job. Except the increase during the 1990 to 1992, the number of this group of population has fallen dramatically until 2000 and reached to 5 per cent. After 2000, it remained stable, however it increased slightly to 6 percent over the two last years.
