The bar charts compare the percentage of male and female students who achieved the highest grades in five academic subjects ( Science, arts, maths, languages, and humanities) between 1960 and 2000.

Overall, it is apparent that the percentage of female students who received highest marks decreased than the males, over the given timeframe.

In 1960, the percentage of male students with the highest grades was about 35%, which declined after 40 years later to just under 30%. A similar trend also observed for maths, the percentage of highest scorers fell from 30% to 15%.
