Tree frog
The reading and the lecture are both about the ability of tree frogs to climb hazardously slippery slopes. The author of the reading believes mucus, the liquid secreted by frogs toe pads, acts as an adhesive to help the creature climb trees and stick to slippery surfaces. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the author.
First of all, the author suggests that the pad designs works with the mucus to keep the pads permanently wet. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He says that according to the last researches the layer of mucus is so thin that the body of a frog stays in a dry contact with a surface.
Secondly, the writer contends that the high viscosity’s level of the mucus of the White’s tree frog provides continuous covering of pads. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that due to specific design of toe the liquid drains away fast.
Finally, it is stated in the article that these frogs have extraordinary capacity to climb and grip. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that although their possibilities are incredible, the source of power remains a mystery.
