You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

Dear John,

I hope you are doing well. I got your letter with regards to your dilemma of choosing between college and job. If I were you, I would prefer you to get a job and gain practical experience than joining an undergraduate school.

Firstly, I have always known you to be passionate about photography, and you are obviously talented, Even after college, you wouldn't enjoy a desk job, and university classes will end up teaching most of the skills which you can simply learn on the job. Also, a college fee will get extremely expensive and paying back the loan is another concern.

Secondly, getting a job will not only make you financially sound compared to your peers but also transform you into a self-supporting adult. Additionally, you can learn the photography skill set under a good mentor and someday open your own studio. Wasn't that you always dreamt about?

Thirdly, I am sure with your portfolio and your charm, you will be able to get work easily. You can get started off as an assistant or an intern under a local photographer and work your way up. Give it serious thought before making any decision.

Good luck with everything and let know if I can be of any more help.

Best Wishes,
Luke
