the online sales for retail sectors in New Zealand in 2003 and 2013
The two pie charts illustrate data on the percentage of online customers for four different categories (books, travel, film/music, clothes) between 2003 and 2013 in New Zealand.
Overall, books and film/music retail industry experienced a slight increase while travel and clothes sales went down in ten years.
Although travel sales dropped by 7% from 36% in 2003 to 29% in 2013, this sector still took the lion’s share among retail sectors in New Zealand. Also, after ten years, there was a significant fall in online clothing retail from 24% to 16%, which turn it from one of the most popular goods into the least popular one.
In the same period, New Zealand saw dramatic growth in film/music sales, which just accounted for 21% in 2003 but then contributed 33% online sales in 2013. An increase of 3% in online sale (from 19% to 22%) switched the position of books to clothes retailing or in other words, books are no longer the least popular goods anymore.
