TPO 47 - Integrated Writing Task
In the passage, several arguments are presented against powered flight of pterosaurs. In contrast, in the lecture, the professor states that pterosaurs can actually make it.
First of all, it is proposed in the passage that modern reptiles are cold-blooded that the ancient may also be so. As a result, it may not be feasible that they are powerful enough to make it as powered flight requires a lot of energy. Notwithstanding, the professor opposes in the lecture that pterosaurs are discovered that they have hair cover on their bodies which may indicates that ancient pterosaurs may be warm-blooded because warm-blooded animals need hair cover to maintain the temperature of their bodies.
Secondly, it is thought to be correct in the passage that these animals limit to their body weight. Some of them are too heavy to make a flight. Whereas, in the lecture, the professor holds a contradictory point of view that some of them have a specific feature that which is hollow bodies that allow them to have light bodies. In addition, they can also fly flap their wings for long periods of time.
Thirdly, it is thought to be truth in the passage that all animals which are capable for flights have strong legs to gain enough speed and power while pterosaurs do not have. In the lecture, the professor puts forth different parts of animals have different function. Indeed, some birds have two limbs for attaining momentum while pterosaurs have four legs to jump high enough and launch themselves into the sky.
