Techniques for improving Listening
Listening is one of the most powerful tools of communication and is a process that is used to receive, convey a meaning, and respond to both verbal and nonverbal messages. This process is the first stage of the process of learning languages, both English and other languages. Maybe we all feel a little difficult in learning English, especially in listening skills. Unlike other skills, this one skill is more influenced by various factors so that we are required to be more concentrated in listening to our interlocutors.
Most people who start learning English start by reading. But the sequence turned out to be wrong. If likened to a baby's growth cycle, the first thing a baby can do is listen (LISTENING), followed by imitating what he has heard through words (SPEAKING), continuing by reading what has been said (READING), and the last is by write (WRITING). If the sequence and learning process are wrong, then the process of learning English becomes jumping and inefficient. The result if you start by learning to read first, the biggest possibility is that they are wrong in pronunciation. This is because mother tongue is still being carried in their daily language. Even though we all know that English with Indonesian has a quite different difference when viewed from the arrangement of words in the sentence.
The first thing to do in learning English Listening is to try to familiarize yourself with all kinds of things that smell of English. We can start by trying to listen to English stories or films. Make sure if you watch a movie, try a non-subtitle, or look for one that has English subtitles too. Listen repeatedly are more familiar with the English pronunciation.
The learning process of Listening cannot be done instantly. It takes a relatively longer time to get used to the foreign sounds of English. In addition, the process of learning English also requires the subconscious ability of the brain to better remember what has been absorbed from the process of listening to the conversation in English earlier.
If we are all getting used to the process of listening to conversations in English, then now is the time to practice it. Along with the increasingly familiar listening to English conversations, the brain is unconsciously also recording how the correct pronunciation in English. You no longer need to learn Pronunciation in English to find out how to pronounce it, it's just that you need to train and keep getting used to your tongue to speak English. There is nothing instant in this world. Even Instant Noodles also require a separate process so they can be consumed. Therefore, keep on consistently practicing and getting used to speaking English, because language is a habit.
