Given is the graph illustrating how much energy produced in France by 4 different sources over a period of 30 years, starting from 1980.
Overall, it is evident that while the amount of energy generated by nuclear and renewables witnessed an increase , the opposite was true for thermal and hydroelectric sources over the period. it is also notable that the use of the nuclear power was the most common source for energy production.
In 1980, there was 50 terawatt hours of energy produced from nuclear power, while the figures for renewables was negligible (approximately 0 TW-h). The following 25 years saw a dramatic growth in the amount of energy generated from nuclear source, to somewhere in the vicinity of 460 TW-h , followed by a drop to below 450 terawatt hours in 2010. Meanwhile, before climbing to about 25 TW-h in the last year, the amount produced from renewables stayed stable at approximately 0 TW-h from 1980 to 2000.
In stark contrast, in 1980, there was approximately 125 TW-h produced from thermal source, which is significantly higher than that of hydroelectric, at 70 TW-h. over the next 25 years, despite some fluctuations, both these two sources stayed unchanged at around 50 TW-h.
