TPO 37- One of the threats to endangered sea turtle species is the use of nets by commercial shrimp-fishing boats. When turtles get accidentally caught in the nets, they cannot rise to the surface of the ocean to breathe, and they die. Some people suggest
The passage states that a remarkable number of sea turtles are killed by the shrimpers annually. these turtles trap into the shrimp-boat nets and they couldn't come to the sea surface to breath. Some critics believe that an invention called turtle excluder device is not helpful for turtles to release themselves and the passage explains three reasons. However, the lecturer has an opposite notion and refutes each the reasons.
First, the article explains that turtles get caught into traps rarely and on the other hand striking number of shrimps will escaped through the ted passages. The professor challenges this reason by saying that shrimp boats are innumerable in the ocean so the aggregate number of trapped turtles will be striking. He adds that the killed turtles are noticeable in comparison to the whole population and the released shrimps by means of passages are insignificant.
Second, the passage claims that alternative methods such as time limit is more instrumental for helping the trapped turtles but the lecturer refutes this explanation as well and says that inspecting time limitation by patrols is not practical and this procedure will not be applicable.
Third, the article avers that the passages which are applied for turtles are not in proportionate with the size of big turtles. The professor contends that these passages could be designed bigger without any devastative effect on the ted efficiency.
