In some countries number of people visiting art gallery is declining.what are reasons for that ? How can we solves this .?
Popularities of art galleries is decreasing in many countries across the world. Changing demography of population with changing preference for entertainment, lack of formal teaching of arts in school curriculum, and lack of modernisation of art gallery are important reasons for this declining popularity and need to be rectified to increase footfalls.
Among various reason for declining numbers of people visiting art galleries, I believe, changing demography is most important. As young people are likely to be more techno savvy, they are more likely to spend time with computers and internet rather than in art gallery. Additionally, schools, in this modern era do not stress on formal arts teaching, and mainly focus on practical subjects like science and technology. This further diminishes the importance of arts in people's life, who do not understand its importance in human history ,education, and evolution. To add more, art galleries have also failed to keep abreast with latest arts culture like digital art, face painting, and cinema which are more popular with the modern generation, making art gallery somewhat old fashioned and out of trend.
In order to improve the foot falls in the arts gallery, people have to be taught about the importance of arts in modern society by introducing it in the school syllabus. Arts gallery should regularly organise relevant cultural events, in accordance with peoples interest and feedback, to keep themselves relevant in this modern era of digitalisation. They can use social media to improve their popularity in modern generation. They also require modernisation with latest trends , like new form of digital arts , history museum of twenty first century, and modern human evolution. And lastly funding of these arts gallery should be increased to make them compatible with modern society.
In conclusion, I will stress the importance of teaching the students about arts, modernisation of arts gallery in accordance with changing trend and increasing the allocated funds as important measure to improve the popularity of the arts galleries.
