The charts illustrates the proportion of water consumption for five various groups of the economy in Sydney, Australia, in two different years 1997 and 2007.
Overall, it is clear that food industry consumed the highest percentage of water in both years, whereas the figure for building industry was the lowest.
There was a general decline in the amount of water used for building industry, manufacturing and food industry over two separate years. In terms of building industry, the percentage of water consumed declined from 5% in 1997 to over a half in 2007. The figures for manufacturing and food industry also fell to 11% and 41%, respectively, of total water usage in 2007.
On the other hand, the proportion of water use in the other sectors increased in 2007, compared with the year 1997. Household use accounted for just 19% of all water used in 1997, but raising to 21% in 2007. Water consumption in service sector grew slightly from 13% to nearly doubled in 2007.
