The graphs below show the average monthly expenditure on children's sports and participation in different sports in UK from 2008 to 2014.
The first line graph represents the average expenses for every month on children's sporting activities (million pounds) and the second one depicts the number of children who took part in football, athletics and swimming in the United Kingdom in a period of six years from 2008 to 2014.
Overall, the monthly expenditure on children's sports increased steadily over the years and football was the most popular sport for children in the UK.
According to the first graph, in 2008, the figure of average expenditure was 20 million pounds for British children's sport actions which continually went up in the subsequent years. In 2014, the amount of money UK children spent on athletic pursuits reached to 30 million pounds.
Moving on the second graph, we can see that football was the most dominant sport in the three subjects with the towering figure of more than 8 million participants in 2008 and 9 millions in 2014 whereas it was only 1 and 2 million in swimming and athletics respectively in 2008. However, the popularity of swimming grew up and lasted to 2014, with roughly 3.8 million children's participation took this activity. With a dramatically upward trend, athletics also became the second common sport when children participated with approximately 5 millions. It is worth noting that more children participated in these sports in 2014 than in 2008, especially football.
