The table shows the number of employees and factories in the UK from 1851 to 1901.
The table illustrates how many employees and factories were reported in the UK over a period of 50 years starting from 1851.
In general, it can be seen that while the number of total employment decreased, the opposite was true that for factory. Besides, the figure for total employment was the highest in 1851 although this year witnessed the smallest number of factory.
To begin with, there was a sharp decline in the number of total employment from 470000 in 1851 to 61000 in 1901. The figure for male was higher than that for female employment from 1851 to 1891 except 1861, in which the numbers of male and female were 130000 and 160000 respectively. In 1901, 31000 was the number of male employment, which was nearly equal with that of female.
Moving on, with regard the remaining category, there was 225 factories in 1851. In next 10 years, the number of factory climbed rapidly to reach the peak of 727 in 1861. Then this number fluctuated slightly before experiencing a gradual decrease to 600 in 1901.
