In many organizations, perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team. Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages. First of all, a group of people has a wider range of knowledge, expertise, and skills than any single individual is likely to possess. Also, because of the numbers of people involved and the greater resources they possess, a group can work more quickly in response to the task assigned to it and can come up with highly creative solutions to problems and issues. Sometimes these creative solutions come about because a group is more likely to make risky decisions that an individual might not undertake. This is because the group spreads responsibility for a decision to all the members and thus no single individual can be held accountable if the decision turns out to be wrong.
Taking part in a group process can be very rewarding for members of the team. Team members who have a voice in making a decision will no doubt feel better about carrying out the work that is entailed by the decision than they might doing work that is imposed on them by others. Also, the individual team member has a much better chance to “shine”, to get his or her contributions and ideas not only recognized but recognized as highly significant, because a team’s overall results can be more far-reaching and have greater impact than what might have otherwise been possible for the person to accomplish or contribute working alone.

The passage talks about how team work is a good thing and provides several examples. While the lecturer points out some negative things about working in a team.
First of all the reading points out that working in a group is a good thing because more knowledge, skills, are brought by all the members of the team. Furthermore all the team members can divide the responsibilities. The professor cast doubts and gives an example of how in one company where working in a group is implemented some people do not work as hard as others. Only a few employees in the group would do the work. But at the end the group as a whole is recognized and not the work of each individual. The lady describes this as a freeride to the employees that did little or not work. also she says that the few members that did most of the work would not happy because proper recognition was not given to them.
Secondly the passage states that the idea of collaboration is good because each individual feels as if they have a say in the work that they are doing as opposed as just having work imposed on them. The lecturer also cast doubts on this because she say's that sometimes the team cannot come up with a decision. this means that the team would take a long time to get the work done or they would get nowhere. Finally the lady mentions how at times she noticed that some teams had influencers, these team members decisions were the ones the group would go by. if the influencers did not agree with an idea, the idea would not go through, even if the idea was a good idea. Another thing that happened is that influencers would say an idea is good and the team would do that idea, even if the idea was a bad idea and if some of the team would voice their disagreement with the idea. In this case if the idea is bad and the team goes through with it the whole team would get blamed for the bad idea.
