The diagram depicts the process of electricity production in a hydroelectric power station. Overall, it shows that the station works back and forth in a cycle of using river water at night and during the day. The principle of work is done by the reversible turbines in the power station.
The trend initiates when the river water is channeled into a high-level reservoir that is supported by a dam. There is an intake area leading to the power station which remains open during the day and closes at night.
So, the intake allows water flows during the day to produce electricity through the reversible turbines and then the resulting electricity is sent to a national grid through the power lines while the excess water runs to a low-level reservoir.
The power station turbines that run the generator during the day, pump the excess water from the low-level reservoir back to the high-level reservoir so that it can be reused in the next day.
