The reading discusses some theories about what agnostids ate or how they behaved and listed three factors to explain this idea. However, the speaker finds all the reasons dubious and presents some evidence to refute them.
First, the author proposes that it is plausible that they were free-swimming predators which preyed on other small animals. In contrast, the speaker asserts that swimming in the ocean and praying needed the development eye to improve their vision, while they have poor vision or in other words, they were blind, and could not chase after pray and must have other sense that there is not any evidence. Therefore, the speaker dismisses this theory.
Second, the author mentioned that they were seafloor residents that feed on the dead organisms. On the other hand, the speaker casts doubt on this issue and states that they have the ability to be fast so they could not occupy the small geographic areas.
Last but not least, the reading passage points out that they were parasites which live and feed on other larger organism. On the contrary, the speaker rebuts this idea and declares that if some organisms want to be parasites they must have few populations because if not they kill the host organism. Hence, as their populations have great size, they could not be parasites.
