The article declares that in the twentieth-century archaeologists suffer serious problems and limitations to find a history of human settlement in Britain and provides three reasons for that. However, the professor explains that in 1990 Britain adopted new rules which helped in all three areas which article discusses and refutes each of the author's reasons.
To begin with, the reading states that due to construction many important artifacts were destroyed. On the other hand, the lecturer contradicts this points by stating that according to new guideline before construction start site has to examine first by the archaeologists and if is valuable for them then they have to find other options like they can do construction around that area or archaeologists have to excavate the whole site first and after that construction start.
Moreover, the reading claims that the government not providing enough financial support for archaeological research. Nonetheless, the speaker says that if they find valuable artifacts site then the construction company had to pay for an initial examination so there is more financial support than before.
Lastly, the passage contends that to have a career in archaeology is very difficult. The professor cast doubt on this theory. He points out that the government hire paid archaeologists to do work. And many of them needed different stages during the excavating process like draw proper plans, process all collected data, etc. So many jobs are generated and many opportunities available for archaeologists.
