The diagram below shows how solar panels can be used to provide electricity for domestic use.
The process diagram illustrates how electricity is generated by solar panels and contributed to the household.
We can see that the process contains 5 stages which need different equipment, namely solar panels, inverter, electrical panel, utility meter and the utility grid. It requires sunshine as the original energy.
At the first stage, solar panels transform energy from the sun to DC current on the roof. Next, the current, passing through cables from the top of the house to the outside of it, is converted into useable electricity, AC current, in the inverter. Then, the electricity is distributed to the house by an electrical panel near to the inverter.
The utility meter will send extra electricity produced by solar system bank to the grid when the production is more than the usage. If the electricity demand of the household is more than what the solar panels can produce, the utility grid will offer electricity from the energy company. This system can save the number of electricity people have to buy from the grid and take advantage of solar energy in nature.
