The diagram below shows nitrogen sources and concentration levels in the groundwater of a coastal city. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main feauters.

Write at least 150 words.

The diagram illustrate details of coastal city groundwater with present nitrogen sources and concentration level.

In coastal vegetation, due to the rainfall two reaction happens which constitute as nitrogen source in the soil that are nitrogen oxidisation by lighting which causes ammonia degassing. Another reaction is nitrogen fixation by vegetation which causes denitrification in the soil.

In domestic and market gardens, nitrate act as a nitrogen source which is taken by the soil particles due to excess use of fertilizers and discharge of household liquid wastes in soil.

Industrial waste which are discharge in storage tanks and in ponds help in increasing the concentration level of nitrogen in the soil. Similarly, waste disposal in landfill also help in increasing the concentration of nitorgen in the soil.

The concentration of nitrogen in groundwater is directly proportional to colour density and overall, flow of groundwater is in the direction of oceans and this flow takes all these nitrogen sources and excess of nitrogen away from the soil and discharge it on the ocean from were this cycle was started.
