The given line graph provides information about the most popular activities among the retired people in the United States between 1980 and the present day.
Overall, it is clearly seen, that the popularity of all activities, except theatre, has risen. In addition, the portion of those who are involved in hiking, reading and internet surfing has grown considerably, while the percentage of TV and theatre consumers has changed slightly.
The fraction of people that reads, hikes or surfs the internet among the elderly stood at 30, 20 and 5 per cent in 1980, respectively, being the least popular activities for this group. Then, the figures for hiking and surfing the internet doubled during the next decade, while reading rose only for 10 per cent. After that hiking and the internet consumption trends remained the same, in contrast to reading, which halved in the next ten years. In the last 10 years, the portion of hikers increased by 20 per cent, becoming the most popular entertainment, reading and surfing the internet experienced a similar rise on 35 per cent each.
At the same time, TV had the highest value of 60 per cent in 1980. In the first decade, it increased moderately, in oppose to theatre, which data fell from 50 to 30 per cent. Then TV hit the top of 70 per cent in 2000 and dropped to 65 per cent in the last decade, unlike theatre, which popularity grew slowly to about 45 per cent in 2010.
