One who lives in a country and does not know the local language can cause serious social and practical problems. In my opinion, I agree with that idea because nobody will feel comfortable with themselves, their friends and their job. The following lines will explain the reasons for this approach.
Talking about oneself, if one does not speak the local language of the country he lives, he will feel terrible. Therefore, this person will prefer to be isolated at home and talk with people who speak his language or he will prefer to see films that can be understood on the Internet. Turning on the TV or the radio would be pointless since one will not be able to analyze and understand its content.
On the other hand, in the relationship with friends, the person may be victim of “bullying” because he or she cannot speak correctly, express ideas clearly or misunderstand what they try to say. That situation can affect the social relations and produce mental problems.
And, regarding the job, people can make mistakes in the assignments what they were hired for or they won’t be able to make a speech in a formal way since they are not capable of speaking the foreign language. For this reason, people, for example, will stay only for a short period of time in the company as his/her boss won’t trust him/her. Finally, the lack of ability with the native language can cause serious problems in your job because you won’t be able to express your ideas to your boss, colleagues or during formal speeches or essays.
In conclusion, although people should think that it is normal to go to live abroad, in a country which one has to speak a foreign language, it is important to consider the mental problems which cause when you make mistakes while trying to understand a non-native language. Besides, people should remember that it is difficult to make friends. Not all of them will give a hand with the language.
