Fight or flight
The reading passage explains how the deeply rooted reflexes of human beings to stressful situations lead to specific behaviors, which is categorized as fight or flight responses. It indicates that while hunting a game was accompanied by aggressive behaviors and adrenalin rush, facing a thread such as a wild carnivore would elicit fast fleeing. Although, the listening endorsed parts of the information provided by the passage, it undermines some other parts as below.
For the beginning, the professor says stress responses do not happen the same way among the male and the female. While men get involved in fight or flight responses, the women express tend or befriend ones. It means that men primarily react to the problem by becoming aggressive or becoming suppressed. On the other hand, women’s reactions could be either solving the problem individually or seeking for external helps. This is one of the major differences between the opposite sexes in stressful circumstances.
According to the lecture, women are willing to get calm down and use their verbal skills to communicate. However, men have a tendency to verbally attack the others. The passage highlighted that in fight and flight condition, people feel angry and start bitter arguments. This is in contrast to what the lecturer mentions.
Moreover, the professor asserts that when a female encounter a problem that she cannot resolve, she seeks for help. Calling a friend, and asking for a support is typical of a women in difficulties. This is contrary to what the reading claims, that says in stressful situations flight behaviors result in avoidance, drug abuse, and staying alone.
