Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.
Both the passage and the lecture discusses about the benefits of avocados. The former states that avocados are beneficial and presents three points of support. The lecturer also admits avocados to be beneficial but disputes the reasons stated in the passage.
First of all, according to the passage, the author claims that avocados help in decreasing blood pressure because of the presence of phytonutrients and folic acid. In contrast, the lecturer contradicts this point by saying that avocado might instead increase blood pressure because of the fats present in it. He presents facts about the quantity of fats and calories present in one avocado. Even though the fats present in avocados are healthy fats, the speaker claims that they are still fats which could result into gain in weight. Consequently, such weight gain could result in increase in blood pressure instead of lowering. This is how the lecturer says that avocados might lead to increase in blood pressure.
Next, the author of the passage posits that avocados have different health benefits during pregnancy like reduction in risk of miscarriage and neural tube defects. This point is challenged by the professor. He asserts that pregnant and breast feeding woman should in fact avoid avocados because of different effects. He points out that avocados might be responsible to decrease in milk production. The content of avocado could also be difficult for children to digest as they have small stomach. Hence, the professor argues that avocados are not beneficial to pregnant women.
Lastly, the final point in the passage is that avocados can help in saving money. In the passage, it is said that as avocados have meal like taste, it can be consumed instead of meat which is expensive in comparision to vegetables as a whole. However, the professor thinks that avocados consume a lot of water and are not economical. He mentions that in order to grow single pound of avocados gallons of water is necessary; on the other hand, meat does not demand such water. He also talks about how other fruits like apple can be bought more in comparision to a single avocados. Therefore, he says that avocados are not cheap.
All in all, the professor refutes the points in the passage that try to explain about the benefits of avocados
