The graph below shows changes in young adult unemployment rates in England between 1993
and 2012.
The line graph demonstrates a changing pattern regarding the unemployment rates of young people in London and the rest of England over the course of 19 years starting in 1993.
Looking at the graph, it is apparent that the percentages of unemployed individuals aged 16 to 24 in London experienced an upward trend while that of the overall decreased. Throughout the the period, the percentage of jobless people between 16 and 24 in London registered the highest figure compared to the remaining three sections examined.
In 1993, the proportion of unemployment among young adults in London was around 22%. This number dropped to nearly 15% between 1993 and 2002 before reaching its peak at 25% by 2012. A similar pattern with regard to unemployment was seen in the same percentage of the unemployed individuals in the same age group in the rest of England, where it fell from about 18% to 12% between 1993 and 2002 before climbing to approximately 20%.
At the beginning of the period, the overall unemployment proportion in London registered at relatively 15%. This number witnessed a progressive decline from 15% to only a half between 1993 to 2006 and then maintained at approximately 10% in 2012. The rate of jobless individuals in other parts of England showed a similar development, where it dwindled from 10% to 5% between 1993 and 2008 before stabilizing at about 7% afterwards.
