The bar chart illustrates how often american at different age groups drinks, ranging from less than 20 years old to more than 70 years old.

Generally, the majority of american have never drunk, demonstrated by a figure that always stay below 50% except for the oldest age group.

It is obvious that american drinks the most during their 30s and 40s, with about 15 percent of them are heavy drinkers. However, more people in their late 20s to early 30s are light drinker than any other age group. The number for light drinker start high for people from 16 to 24 and peaked for people from 25-34, but then reduced gradually for all the next age groups.

Another point worth noticing is that american drink less when they are old, with the number for ex-drinkers increases dramatically from the 45-54 age group to 65-74 age group while the number of heavy drinkers reaches its lowest since the maximum at 45 to 54 years of age.
