In a given sets of material, reading passage disccusses three negtative effects of electronic gadgets, while the speaker argues that all the claims mentioned in the reading related to the electronic devices are not true. Moreover, she believes that paper materil have some limitations.
First, regarding critical thinking both passage and speaker contradict each other. The author of the passage claim that reading via screen rather than paper material hindered people critical thinking. This point is contested by the speaker. She points out that reading from paper materil does not improve critical thinking. Furthermore, she says since reading paper material mostly consist of one source of news as in most cases one news company information mostly is limited. Also, view point of people reading from single source of news paper can be baised. In contrast, people reading from electronic devices can broaden their perspective by reading different materials and can assist them to increase critical thinking.
Secondly, passage claims that electronic devices are detrimental to people health as these devices emit electromagnetic waves that are harmful to brain cells. This argument is rebutted by the lecturer. she says that is not the case. She mentions there is no clear proof that these cause any harm to either eye or brain. She argues that people reading from electronic devices needs to stretch their body and are required to change of body postures while reading from electroinc gadgets. Moreover, there is a proof that people who does reading from news paper may experience headache.
Finally, author of reading claims that these devices may cause addiction and can hinder the language and personal emotion skills among people. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. She says in reality electronic devices enhance social skills by providing a plethora of information sources. She mention people using electronic devices can familirize themselves with varierty of subjects and share feelings and thoughts with several people which helps them to raised the social skills.
