The charts show school expenditure and the proportion of students who gained higher education diplomas and degrees in Singapore from 2000 to 2012.
The bar chart depicts the aggregate school expenditure in Singapore, and the pie chart gives information on how many Singaporean students received tertiary education diplomas and degrees between 2000 and 2012.
Overall, throughout the time period, male students spend more money on education than their female counterparts. In addition, in terms of qualifications, diplomas were gained significantly more than degrees over the course of twelve years.
As per the bar chart, in 2000, there was no prominent difference between the expense of boys and girls, however, in the next two years, the gap was exaggerated as the males’ spending doubled whereas that of the females only witnessed a slight increase. Nevertheless, the trend is different for 2008 when the expenditure of the girls reached a plateau of somewhere in the vicinity of 10 million dollars while the spending of the boys had reached the 25-million-dollars mark. By the end of the time period, the school spendings of both genders saw a five-million-dollars increase, which made up for the 30 million and 20 million of boy’s and girl’s, respectively. When considering the bar chart, from the ratio of 3:7 for female and male expenditure, in 2012, it changed to a mere 1:2 as there were fewer diplomas and more degrees received.
