The lecturer opposes the reading passage’s opinions on the advantages of university professors’ television appearance to the professors, universities, and the general public.
First of all, the reading passage cites that the professor will gain an enhanced reputation among his colleagues and among the general public as well. The professor doesn’t agree with it and says that the TV appearance of a professor will injure his reputation among academic scholars as they might think that he is not serious about educating and just want to entertain. Because of this, a professor might not get an invitation to important meetings and also, no fundings for his research projects.
Furthermore, the passage says that a professor’s television appearance might benefit the professor’s university in the form of good publicity. This will also help to bring more donations and excellent students to the college but the lecturer doesn’t agree with it and says that the professor might spend a lot of time while preparing for his TV appearance. This way, he would miss out on essential university work, meeting with students, and his research work which are way more important than the TV appearance.
Lastly, the passage suggests that general public could not connect with the professors, so it would be great it they could get the professor’s expertise on an academic topic but the lecturer objects this by saying that people do not usually prefer to view in-depth academic lecture after dinner. Also, the background information provided by the professors on television can be given by TV reports as well.
In conclusion, the lecturer in the conversation does not agree with the reading passage’s view on the issue.
