The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labeled coffee and bananas in 1999and 2004 in five European countries.
The provided tables compare five nations in Europe (namely the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden) in terms of their selling of Fairtrade coffee and bananas in two separate years, 1999 and 2004.
Overall, it is evident that all mentioned countries experienced a rise in the sales of coffee in 2004, whereas only three out of five had a growth in their sales of bananas. Also, the UK was noticeably seen to have the highest levels of selling on the two products.
Looking at the information in more detail, in 1999, Switzerland was the nation with the highest sales of Fairtrade coffee (at 3 million euros), whilst revenue from bananas was highest in the UK, with 15 million euros. By the year 2004, however, sales of coffee in the UK experienced exponential growth to 20 million euros, over three times higher than Switzerland’s sales at the same time (6 million euros). The year 2004 also witnessed a dramatic increase in the revenue from Fairtrade bananas of the UK and Switzerland, with 47 and 5,5 million euros respectively.
As regards the other countries, revenues from coffee saw a slight increase in Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden, but still remained at 2 million euros or under. Concerning sales of Fairtrade bananas, there was a soar of nearly 3,5 million euros to 4 million euros in Denmark. By contrast, Belgium and Sweden were the only nations whose revenues reduced by half, standing at 1 and 0,9 million euros in 2004 respectively.
