The article and the lecture both deal with Turtle Excluder Device (TED). The author has several reasons for positive effects of this technology on turtles' life while the lecturer has a different point of view on this issue. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, TED has metal barriers approximately ten centimeters for preventing the hook of turtles. However, this technology works in this way which does not remove possibilities for catching shrimps. Nonetheless, the professor refutes this idea. She mentions that some small turtles also appear into boat`s nets and by the way plenty of shrimps are able to escape from fishers.
Second, the reading claims that the government creates a special Shrimp Turtle Law. It demands to install on all boats the TED mechanism. If the fishers do not do it, they will be prohibited to sell their goods. However, the professor disputes this idea. She is sure that will exist a lot of ships that will not utilize this technology.
Third, the author states that the USA manages most part of their economics and therefore require to validate a presence of TED on all boats which hooking shrimps. Without any documentation, neither Europe nor other countries could not sell their products in the USA. Another point that the instructor uses calls into question the reading is that international connections and business systems are hard to control. Also, there are no prohibitions for them to make false papers of certification.
In conclusion, the points made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The main idea in the positive effect of TED is effectively challenged by the lecturer who gives some rejectable ideas about it.
