the proportion of male and female students studying six art-related subjects at a UK university in 2011.
The bar chart illustrates how many men and women students of a UK university enrolled in six different subjects in 2011. Overall, it can be seen that while in most subjects, the number of women students was more than that of men, Art and Design was the only subject in which males outnumbered females.
The highest number of participants was seen in English language and literature, with 250 female students, and 225 men. While women took part in Linguistics more than Communication and Media study, with about 240 and 225 people respectively, the opposite trend was found in men, with approximately 175 students studying Linguistics and 205 students studying the other.
The number of male students enrolled in Philosophy and History and Archeology was far less than that of females, with 50 and 90 students for men and 150 and 125 for women, respectively. However, Art and Design subject was more attractive to males than females, where 175 students were men but just over 150 students were accounted for women.
